Voting with my family
A few minutes ago, my mother Marisol and my father Julio voted to send their son to represent them and 130,000 other Brooklynites in the New York State Assembly. It was an emotional moment for my parents, seeing my name on the ballot after they worked day in and day out to provide me with the kind of opportunities they never had.

Will you join my parents at the polls today? Click here to find your polling site. Polls close at 9pm tonite.
According to some estimates, as few as 3500 voters may come to the polls today. That makes your vote, and your volunteer efforts, even more important.
If you haven’t already signed up to volunteer, contact our campaign now.
A few hundred votes will make the difference today. Let’s go get them!

PS: After the polls close, join us for a celebration at Guz Indoor Sports Club.
What it takes to win
Friends,
This week, according to WNYC and The New York Times, we have a chance to “help remake Brooklyn Democratic politics” and “set the tone for the next round of city and state elections.”
How do we do it? By mobilizing the largest grassroots special election effort our neighborhoods have ever seen to defeat two entrenched political dynasties.
Election Day is less than one week away. We are in a position to pull off a stunning upset that will give hope to reform candidates and activists across Brooklyn.
You can help make it happen. Click here to see what you can do to help: http://www.gonzalezforassembly.com/volunteer
Every day, when I am walking the streets in our community, I meet dozens of campaign volunteers. Most of them are like me and my family: hardworking people who have never had much money but love their neighborhood and want to help make it a better place to live.
I want you to join these amazing men and women, teenagers and kids, as they talk to voters in the streets and homes of Bushwick, Cypress Hills, City Line, East New York and Bed-Stuy. I know you will have a good time, and I know that you can help make the difference between a near-miss and victory.
Don’t pass up this chance to be a part of an amazing, grassroots campaign. Click here now to volunteer.
Thank you for stepping up at this crucial moment. I look forward to seeing you on the street!
Si Se Puede!

JESUS GONZALEZ GAINS MAJOR ENDORSEMENTS, MOMENTUM
SEIU 1199, TWU Local 100, and Council Members Letitia James and Brad Lander Endorse Jesus Gonzalez
BROOKLYN, NY – On Friday, August 26th State Assembly candidate Jesus Gonzalez announced major endorsements including 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East, Transport Workers Union Local 100, and Brooklyn City Council Members Letitia James (D-35) and Brad Lander (D-39).
“Jesus Gonzalez is the best candidate for Brooklyn's working families. He is a strong community organizer with a proven record of fighting for workers' rights,” said Kevin Finnegan, Political Director of 1199 SEIU United Healthcare Workers East. "He is a leader with the vision and passion to bring good jobs, affordable housing and responsible development to the residents of this struggling community. We are proud to endorse Jesus Gonzalez for State Assembly and we'll work hard to make sure he's elected."
Gonzalez is a candidate in the September 13th Special Election to fill the vacancy in the 54th Assembly District. He is a lifelong Democrat, running on the Working Families ballot line. The 54th Assembly District includes portions of Bedford-Stuyvesant, Bushwick, Cypress Hills, East New York and Cityline.
Integrity
Friends,
As we build momentum for a new kind of politics, one of our opponents in this race made it clear that he wants to do things the old way.
This past week, WNYC revealed that Rafael Espinal, the Democratic Party candidate, initially told the Working Families Party he supported marriage equality and abortion. Then he turned around and told the Conservative Party that he was strongly opposed to both. And he put it in writing.
Espinal’s disingenuous strategy is to give one answer to one group and say the complete opposite to another. “I’m looking to win this race,” Espinal said. “I’m just looking to get as much leverage as I can.”
It’s a matter of integrity. Politics is not just about leverage.
Espinal then tried to fix things by telling the Conservative Party that he hadn't filled out the Working Families Party questionnaire himself. It just leaves you scratching your head, not knowing what to believe.
Congresswoman Nydia Velazquez put it best, “Either Espinal is very confused or he thinks Brooklyn voters are. Brooklyn deserves political representatives who will stand on principle, not political expediency.”
This is the kind of politics we are working hard to change. Please donate to our campaign and help us fight against this kind of dishonesty.
Jesus has always had his priorities straight and his message clear. Equality, justice and standing up for the community – these are the values Jesus has always stood for and will continue to fight for.
Show your support for the candidate of integrity by donating to our campaign and sharing this message with everyone you know who cares about honest politics in Brooklyn.
Si se puede!
